Point Vicente Lighthouse Long Beach

Jan 13

Located on the most south-western point of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Point Vicente Lighthouse has long been one of this area’s jewels built in 1926. The lighthouse is a scenic delight and continual attraction to sightseers, tourists, photographers and painters.

The tower itself is 67 feet tall but the main beam of light marks Point Vicente from a height of 185 feet above the ocean. The view from the nearby cliffs is superb and the nearby park offers great opportunities for enthusiastic whale watchers. The beam from the Lighthouse’s powerful lens can be seen up to 20 miles at sea.

Today, Point Vicente Lighthouse still sends out its beacon across the Catalina Channel and moreover electronic sensors and automated controls have replaced the lighthouse keeper and activate the fog horn.
